To start up this holiday season The Puppetry Arts Theatre (TPAT) and Regal Cinemas of Court Street Brooklyn are teaming up to host a Reading Exchange Program on Sunday December 17th. This event, designed by TPAT Executive Director Tim Young, was brought about for kids from all over the City celebrate new friendships through the gift of reading.
Youth and families are encouraged to grab a new copy of a favorite book and to write in it their name, age, why they liked the book so much. Then visit the Court Street Regal Cinemas on 12/17 from 12-noon to 4pm to drop off your book to pick up a new one from a new friend! But before you go to your movie, families and friends are invited to make arts and crafts and meet Maggie Moo the Cow and the characters from TPATS family musical In A Round About Way.
Such a delightful event as this would encourage youth to read new books and explore new ideas, says Tim Young, But it also introduces youth from diverse neighborhoods all over the community to each other through open dialogue about the experience they had over a book they shared.
Thanks to the generous support of Regal Cinemas, this event is also part of the TPAT outreach program for special youth from area shelters and community organizations to encourage families to visit the movies together at no cost.
