Once again the Holiday Season is getting off to a good start with The Puppetry Arts Theatre’s (TPAT) Annual Reading Exchange Event Saturday December 1st hosted at the Regal Cinemas of Court Street, Brooklyn.
The Reading Exchange Event is designed by TPAT Executive Director Tim Young to encourage students from different area schools and community programs to interact with each other through the gift of reading.
With the purchase of a movie ticket between 11am and 5pm youth and families are invited to attend the event at Court Street and enjoy arts and crafts including mask making, face painting, and even book making. As part of its mission, TPAT has invited other community organizations and area business to participate in the event including Score Educational Center, Arts for All, and The Museum for African Art.
Making the event even more special, kids are asked to bring a new copy of a favorite book to the Movie Theatre to exchange with another student. In side the book cover, kids are asked to write their name, age, and why they liked the book so much. Then wrap the book up in holiday paper and place the reading age level in the corner of the wrapped book.
This wonderful event celebrates the new movie “Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium” and welcomes youth to discover new books and new ideas with new friends.
“The Reading Exchange Event introduces youth from different neighborhoods to each other,” says Timothy Young, Executive Director of TPAT, “and it also sets aside creative time and promotes dialogue with in families through arts and crafts and a trip to the movies.”
Celebrating its 10th year of providing visual and performing arts programs to the community, The Puppetry Arts Theatre has consistently produced numerous theatrical performances and arts in education workshops featuring the unique art of puppetry. Through out the year, TPAT showcases events for the entire community including the musical “In A Round About Way” and the most recent Haunted Halloween Carnival, which was host to over 1200 youth and families.
“It is the mission of The Puppetry Arts Theatre to offer creative outlets and cultural exploration through the multidisciplinary art of puppetry, building upon youth development and enriching community and family activity” he says.
This event is also part of the Outreach Program of TPAT for at risk children from area shelters and foster programs. As guests of TPAT, these youth are invited with their families and friends to attend the movies at no cost.
With the purchase of a ticket, every kid will be given free popcorn and goodies from the featured movie and an open invitation to enjoy the festivities.
